Why Action Comes Before Motivation
When mood is low, the natural plan is to wait until you feel like doing things again. The trouble is that low mood feeds on inactivity, and waiting can stretch on for a long time.
Motivation usually follows action, not the other way around. A small, doable step — a walk, a shower, a text back — produces a small shift, and small shifts add up to momentum.
The key is choosing steps that are genuinely small. Not the thing you think you should manage, but the thing you can manage today.
Structure helps here. When the day already has a shape, you do not have to generate the energy to build one from scratch.
